With a digital camera and a computer, almost anything is possible these days. Want to turn an image of someplace, something or someone you love into an artwork big enough to command the wall behind the sofa? Try Shutterfly.com, which offers 20-by-30-inch prints on paper for $22.99 and 24-by-36 prints on canvas for $149.99. Or go to your local FedexKinko's store, which will enlarge your digital image to gargantuan proportions for $10 a square foot.

Wallpaper
A single panel of framed wallpaper can make a big visual statement for not much money. Reproductions of vintage paper, such as hand-painted chinoiserie looks, can be especially lovely. But there are some marvelous bold contemporary designs out there, too.

Wat heb je nodig: 3 schilderspanelen/doeken van 27 x 36 cm (verkrijgbaar in een schildersbenodigdhedenwinkel, maar ook bij de Hema, Blokker, Action), 3 zwart-wit kopieën van dezelfde portretfoto van 27 x 36 cm (copyshop), 4 kleuren goed dekkende verf (bijvoorbeeld acryl of gouache, hobbywinkel), fotolijm, stanleymes, lineaal, snijmat. Zo maak je het: Laat dezelfde portretfoto drie keer in zwart-wit uitvergroten tot A3 formaat en maak ze iets korter zodat ze passen op de schilderspanelen van 27 x 36 cm. Kies drie verschillende plekken op de foto om die in drie verschillende kleuren goed dekkend te schilderen. Varieer per foto met de kleuren. Als je schilderijtjes droog zijn, plak je de foto's met fotolijm vast op het schilderslinnen. Plak de randen netjes en goed vast. Aan de zijkanten zie je dan nog het vastgespijkerde linnen.
